Support Class

Dear Parents,

You students may have told you not to be concerned about their grade in support. This is true for a couple reasons. 1. They will get a passing grade if they are participating in activities that we do. and 2. Each student works independently on skills they need work on. These skills are graded and put onto their skill folder, however, I will not get these grades transfered into the computer until the 29th of October. Because they work independently on this, their grade will be reflective of only the skills they have accomplished not all of them. If you have questions please feel free to contact me at the school after 2:30pm.

MidTerm

Parents and Students,

The midterm has come and hopefully you are happy with the grade your student is receiving. If this is not the case, please remember that Stallion Round-up is every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8:20-8:40. This is a good time for students to come and get make up work, or get extra help on the assignments they did poorly on. Students are allowed to make up work in my class until the week before the end of the Trimester. They are also allowed to redo any assignment in which they received less than a 70%. I want my students to be as successful as you want them to be, let's see what we can do about making this happen.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Vega

2010-2011 School Year

Dear Students,

As this new school year starts I want you to remember a few very important things:

1st: You CAN learn if YOU want to (no one can force you to learn anything it's your choice)
2nd: School CAN be FUN! (Your choices can change a teacher's plans from fun and exciting-to boring and routine).
3rd: In order for you to get respect, you must show respect (you are not entitled to receive respect without doing things that would earn it)

Let's make this year a great one!

School Supply list:

Math/Science
Binder with dividers (notes, definitions, assignments)
3 x 5 cards
highlighter
pencils and eraser (You may ONLY use a pencil in Math)
Notebook/looseleaf

Library Information

Students,

Now is the time of year to start looking at accessing the public library. Get into the habit now so that you will be doing this during the summer. I've added the link to the public library. Remember if you put books on hold, you can pick them up right at the library. Using the Library website widens your options, instead of just the books in your library building, you will now have access to all the library buildings within the Inland Library Network!

Enjoy your reading!

Spring Break

Students,

Over this spring break do not forget to read! You are still responsible for 20 minutes each night. Also, if you get bored, check out the weblinks. There are several games sites you might enjoy and still get to learn! If you choose to complete another comic strip you can email it to me at: mvega@psusd.us

Have fun!

Proofreading

Students and Parents,

Our paragraph of the week asks parents to proofread your students work. I have noticed that students are not turning in all of their drafts. I'm unsure as to whether they are just not turning them in or they are not doing them. I've also noticed parents rewriting their child's draft. Please don't make more work for yourselves. This should be no more than a 5-10 minute job for parents. Please do not proof your child's work until you have seen what they can do themselves.

Students, You should be checking for capitals and punctuation. You should first be reading your draft aloud to: check for missing words, missing word endings, misspellings, and grammatical errors (tenses!!!). Then rewrite your first draft correcting the errors you found. Give your parents a clean draft to edit.

Parents, only after your child has done these things, and given you a clean draft, should you quickly (in colored ink -if you have it) edit their draft only for capitals, spelling, and puncutation. Do not edit for grammatica errors or word ommissions at this point. If you see a lot of these errors encourage your child to reread and add the words they are missing, in their final draft. Then sign it.

If students stay on topic and follow the rules given in class as well as written on the assignment, and turn in each part on time, they are given full credit. The errors that they make are needed for me to help guide instruction.

Thank-you for all that you do to help your students succeed.

Recording your Reading

Students need to record their reading in their agenda, then have parents sign it. Please, students, remember it is your responsibility to ask your parents to sign each night. Not their responsbility to ask you.

Also, remember to check the blog for the link to the paragraphs of the week.

Reading Calandar

Parents and Students,

Reading Calandars are currently for two weeks at a time. The calandar that was just sent home has a weeks reading on each side. This is due on the 20th of January. At the end of January, with an attempt to be more "green," students will start recording their reading in their agenda and have an adult sign it nightly. Too many students are not turning in their calandars becuase they forgot it, or lost it. The hope is that by using their agenda to record their reading, they will also be more responsible for their other homework as well, since they will be looking in the agenda to record their reading.
