Updates

Students,
I've just added a link to the Paragraph of the Week. Check your class on the right column to see which paragraph you are on, then click the link at the top of the right column. It will bring you to a list of the paragraphs we will or have completed. I've also created a link to a reading calandar. I hope this helps those of you who have missed several assignments, or keep loosing your homework.

Welcome Back 2008-2009

Welcome back Students!

This school year is going to be a new and exciting one for us all if you but choose to learn. You will be challenged often this year and I hope that you step forward to take the challenges put forth. We will be using technology sources more often this year than many of you have used in the past. You will be expected to participate in many things that might make you nervous or uncomfortable. You will get the support you need, but if you feel you need more ask for help, I'm there if you ask.

I will have after school tutoring on Thursday afternoons. If you come you must be in the classroom by 2:40. Tutoring will last until 3:30. If you come you must work, this is not a socialization time. I am there to help you primarily with things for my class, however, when I can I will be glad to help with other subjects. Please, do not come in the morning and expect me to help you, this is my time, when I prepare for the day. Because this time is available to you, I do not expect students not to turn in work because they didn't understand--you can get help. Eighth graders, I have the same lunch as you, so this is another time you can get assistance. I will make a couple lunch times available each month and give your fair warning about when these study periods will be.

Remember students that it is your choice whether or not you learn. It is your choice whether you have fun or not. You can make this a good year for yourself, if you just try.

Mayan Pyramids

Thanks to the Goals 2000 Partnership for Educating Colorado Students, who placed online a printable version of the El Castillo Temple template. Our students here at James Workman Middle really enjoyed creating these temples. It made it easier to understand how long it might have taken and how difficult it would have been for the Mayans to have built these amazing structures.

Fables

7th graders are about to embark on the journey of writing a Fable. We will be reading some, defining what a fable is, what a moral is, and how to write on of their own.
